Alvin Materi – Regional Director

Alvin Materi is the Regional Director of Cruise Asia by Destination Asia. A Canadian national, Alvin has an extensive travel background, from Shore Excursion Manager with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, to a year with Destination Asia in Vietnam, to a senior sales and operational role with a major New Zealand inbound DMC, as well as the first to open our San Francisco sales office back in 2008.

Alvin works with our key markets to identify new business opportunities, and directs the Cruise Asia regional sales and operational departments. With a personal involvement of over 20-years in the cruise industry, many of those in the Asia-Pacific region, Alvin heads our product development, port consulting, itinerary planning, and directs the ongoing ‘branding’ of Cruise Asia by Destination Asia.

Simon Mead – Regional Director of Cruise Operations

Before joining Destination Asia in 2018, Simon Mead was previously Head of Operations at dnata Travel (part of the Emirates Group) for the Destination Management brands incorporating the Arabian Adventures, Gulf Ventures and dnata Cruise. As Head of Operations, Simon was responsible for all service delivery and a front-line team of over 400 relating to the Safaris and Excursions, Hotel Representatives, Transport and Cruise segments.

Simon works closely with our operations teams to ensure consistent delivery of our operations and that Cruise Asia by Destination Asia maintains its position as a leading ground operator across Asia.

The Asia Cruise Association (ACA) is a leading cruise association

Dedicated to the development and promotion of the cruise industry in the Asia-Pacific region. Incorporated in 2009, ACA has been setup in recognition of the strong growth in the cruise
industry for Asia.

The association seeks to establish a firm foundation upon which the cruise industry can work cohesively with governmental agencies and regulatory authorities to develop a mature cruise environment both as a top recreation preference and as a vibrant economic sector for
Asian nations.

Its mission is to create a competent and competitive cruise environment in Asia by being:
the platform for engagement between the cruise industry’s stakeholders, the advocate for
cruise seminars and event promotions, and the steward for organising training and accreditation programs of our industrial partners.
