Record Size Groups Explore Myanmar
Two record sized groups recently embarked on overland tours in Myanmar – the largest to ever arrive on a cruise in the country. In total, 149 guests traveled to Bagan and 77 traveled to Mandalay, both were one night overland experiences.
Two thirds of passengers who attended these tours were travelling as part of a rewards program that Oceania offers its ‘Around the World’ passengers. Each year Oceania picks one highlight destination to offer guests a unique overland experience. Bagan and Mandalay were chosen as a destination in October 2015 and March 2016 respectively, with March’s group the larger of the two. Passengers travelling to Mandalay were introduced to sights such as Mahamuni Pagoda, the Golden Palace Monastery and U Bein Bridge – staying overnight in the Mandalay Hill Resort. Those visiting Bagan had the opportunity to explore some of its 2000 remaining pagodas, including the well preserved Shwezigone Pagoda and Ananda Temple. Accommodation in Bagan was split between the Bagan Lodge and Tharabar Gate Hotel.
