Lao’s Compelling Cultural Heritage
Laos is full of breathtaking landscapes, from the Mekong River tributaries in the south to the capital Vientiane and temple strewn mountain countryside of Luang Prabang – a World Heritage Site situated 2,296 feet (700 metres) above sea level amid a backdrop of scenic mountains. To discover this stunning country, Cruise Asia by Destination Asia (Laos) has created a two night overland program revealing some of Lao’s best preserved cultural attractions.
Commencing in Ho Chi Minh City, guests will transfer to the airport for a short flight to Vientiane. Vientiane is renowned for its laid back pace of life and colonial influences. The French road names sit outside bakeries where locals sip coffee under the bright morning sun. We discover the local heritage through a number of temple visits including a stop at Wat Sisaket.
From Vientiane we make the journey north to Luang Prabang, easily one of Southeast Asia’s most picturesque cities. Encircled by mountains the city is wedged between the Mekong and Khan Rivers and is a former royal capital of the Lan Xan Kingdom with a remarkable well preserved heritage.
Following two nights in Laos, guests return to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport where they will rejoin the ship, or alternatively, this overland can be offered as a Pre or Post cruise program from multiple departure points throughout Asia.
