Phu Quoc Cruise Terminal Project is delayed

The completion of the Phu Quoc Cruise Terminal has been delayed. Originally scheduled to be completed in Q3 2021, the cruise terminal was meant to help this island city entice larger passenger cruise ships to call in the destination and to dock alongside. Currently, cruise ships that call at Phu Quoc must tender ashore. The jetty itself has been completed, but the bulwark is still under construction and the shipping channel has not been deepened and improved due to the lack of capital investment from the local government.

The port authority has delayed the terminal operational schedule until the completion of bulwark, channel improvement, and deepening. Once completed, the Phu Quoc cruise port will be the first multifunctional passenger port in Vietnam that meets international standards to receive global passenger cruises and large cargo ships. In 2019, prior to the covid pandemic, Phu Quoc saw the arrival of 34 ships from 19 different cruise lines.
