Inaugural port call by The Silver Discoverer at Ngapali Beach

Cruise Asia by Destination Asia Myanmar recently managed the inaugural port call by Zeghram Expeditions, chartering the Silver Discoverer at Ngapali Beach, Western Myanmar. Operations ran extremely smooth on what was a new experience for both Zeghram Exeditions and Silver Discoverer, as well as the Cruise Asia team in Myanmar. The port is actually an ancient seaport in Thandwe, a region that boasts a fascinating history. It is specially known for a series of 8th-century stupas that hold sacred relics of the Buddha.

On arrival at anchor point, passengers are transferred to the beach via Zodiac where they are met by our representatives and then driven to Thandwe market. A short trip to the nearby markets quickly reveals that almost every type of ware is on display in what is a truly unique setting for a market – a former colonial prison. The main attraction though, is the soft white sand of Ngapali’s four-mile-long beach, Myanmar’s leading resort destination. Ngapali perfect for those wishing to enjoy stretches of soft sand and the sea – from swimming to snorkeling and basking under a palm tree. The Thandwe experience ends with a short trip up to a nearby hilltop pagoda for a panoramic view of the beach and ocean before transferring back to the ship.
